The Blend coffee in grain
A “blend” is coffee made by mixing beans from different regions. This creates a cup with a more balanced and complex flavor compared to single-origin coffee, which comes from just one place.
In Spain, the term “blend coffee” is often confused with “coffee mixture,” but the two are quite different. While the literal translation of “mixture” might seem accurate, it has a specific cultural meaning. Traditionally, “coffee mixture” refers to coffee roasted with sugar—commonly known as torrefacto. In this process, sugar is added during roasting, usually making up around 20% of the total weight. The sugar caramelizes and burns, giving the coffee a darker, more bitter flavor. A “mixture” typically combines naturally roasted coffee with torrefacto, and the latter is often associated with lower-quality coffee.
At Incapto, we avoid torrefacto entirely. Instead, we focus on 100% naturally roasted coffee. That’s why we use the term “blend” in English—to make it clear that our coffee is free from sugar or artificial additives. Natural roasting is a simple process: just green coffee beans roasted with heat to unlock their full flavor. Our blends combine beans from at least two different origins (sometimes more) and are always naturally roasted.
Blends can vary a lot. Some are made entirely with high-quality Arabica beans that complement each other, while others mix Arabica with Robusta beans. Arabica-Robusta blends are common in coffee served at hotels, restaurants, or catering events. However, some cheaper blends—like those in many supermarkets—use low-quality Robusta beans, resulting in less flavorful coffee.
It’s important to understand that “blend” doesn’t automatically mean high-quality coffee. It simply means beans from different origins have been combined. The quality of a blend depends on the types of beans and how they’re mixed. At Incapto, we create blends with only premium, naturally roasted beans to give you the best coffee experience every time.

The quality of the blend coffee
Next, we will break down the basic ideas to achieve a high-quality blend coffee.
1. Why create a coffee blend?. Before diving in, it’s important to understand why you’re creating a blend in the first place. Are you aiming for a perfectly balanced, top-notch coffee by combining two premium Arabica varieties? Or is your goal to craft a more affordable yet enjoyable blend for commercial purposes? The answer will shape your approach.
2. Skill and experience matter. Like any craft, creating an exceptional coffee blend takes practice and expertise. The more experience a coffee professional has, the better their blends tend to be. Think of it like cooking—just as a seasoned chef can create masterful dishes, a skilled coffee expert can craft blends that truly stand out.
3. Roast separately, blend later. Every coffee bean is unique, and so are its roasting needs. Mixing beans before roasting isn’t ideal because each variety requires a specific roast to bring out its best qualities. Even though a blend combines different coffees, each bean should be roasted individually to perfection before being mixed.
Proper roasting is the cornerstone of a great blend. When done right, it highlights the beans’ flavors and characteristics. If not, it can compromise the quality of the coffee. Now that you understand the basics, check out our expertly crafted coffee blends in the next section.
