From the volcanoes of Sumatra to your cup

Our Sumatra coffee is born in the Aceh region, between 1,200 and 1,700 meters above sea level, at the foot of Mount Kerinci, one of the active volcanoes of the Pacific Ring of Fire. The Typica, Ateng and Timtim varieties are processed with the Giling Basah method, a typical Indonesian wet hulling that accentuates the earthy and spicy notes. The result is a coffee with a dark chocolate base, cinnamon and clove aroma, robust body and a personality that you will not find in any other origin.

A coffee that comes from the volcanic earth

The soils where this coffee grows are volcanic, enriched over centuries by the eruptions of Mount Kerinci. That natural fertility is directly reflected in the cup. Behind each bean is the Koerintji Barokah Bersama Cooperative, founded in 2017 and made up of 320 coffee farmers who grow, process and roast their own coffee in their facilities, including their own cupping laboratory. A young cooperative with quality control that many large farms would envy.

This batch comes from the Koerintji Barokah Bersama Cooperative, made up of 320 members who live and farm on a plateau at the foot of Mount Kerinci, on the island of Sumatra. Mount Kerinci is one of 452 volcanoes in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region with incredibly fertile volcanic soils due to constant eruptions and plate movements.

The cooperative is managed by Triyono, who leads the members in growing, processing and roasting the coffee. They do all this in their own facilities, which include a tasting laboratory next to the dry mill, something truly impressive, since the cooperative was founded in mid-2017.

Tasting notes are nuances that we can find naturally in coffee. Coffees with higher cupping scores are more nuanced and complex. If you like coffees with more traditional flavors, we recommend choosing varieties with tasting notes of the cocoa family, or nuts. On the other hand, if you like coffees with more personality, we recommend choosing coffees with floral or fruity tasting notes.
